Search for man in Greene Co. called off; residents in area considered safe, deputies say

The search for a man considered possibly armed and dangerous has been called off.

The man is believed to have fled the area in a vehicle reported stolen this afternoon, deputies said.

Residents who were earlier urged to stay inside and lock their windows and doors are now considered safe, deputies said.

Surveillance video captured the man attempting to break into a barn before he was suspected of stealing the vehicle and fleeing the area.

INITIAL REPORT

Deputies and state troopers are searching properties along Hoop Road for a man they consider possibly armed and dangerous.

Investigators have been looking for the man since they said he ditched a stolen vehicle in the area of Hoop Road and U.S. 35.

An aviation unit from the Ohio State Highway Patrol has been asked to assist in the hunt.

The man is described as being white with short hair, a white long sleeve shirt, dirty jeans with a large hole in them, according to a safety alert sent to residents in the area.

Residents are being urged to lock all doors and windows in the area between Bickett Road and the bike path.

The man was last seen in the backyards of houses on Hoop Road heading east toward the bike path.

Anyone who sees the man should call 911.
