XENIA — A man was sentenced to 22 to 25 years in prison on Friday after pleading guilty in the Greene County Common Pleas Court for sex crimes involving a minor.
The defendant, Shawn Schirmer, pled guilty to two counts of rape and two counts of sexual battery, and was sentenced by visiting Judge William H. Wolff, Jr.
According to a release from the Office of Greene County Prosecutor David D. Hayes, the crime occurred in Xenia, where Schirmer befriended the minor child victim in the case.
After Schirmer befriended the minor, they then began to engage in a sexual relationship.
The defendant also reportedly provided marijuana to the minor in exchange for sexual acts, according to the release.
The sexual relationship continued for several months until the parent’s of the minor became suspicious and contacted the Xenia Police Division.
Schirmer has been previously convicted on two counts of Public Indecency in Highland County.
After his release he will be required to register as a Tier III sex offender, which will require community notification and in person verification every 90 days for the rest of his life.
