Man recognized for helping stop robbery in Butler County

BUTLER COUNTY — The Butler County Sheriff’s Office is recognizing a man who saved a woman from a robbery.

The Sheriff’s Office presented Deshawn Pressley with the Citizen’s Award Thursday evening.

On Dec. 5, Pressley witnessed a man steal Pat Goins’ purse at the Kroger in Lemon Twp. Pressley wrestled the suspect until law enforcement arrived to arrest him.

The suspect, identified as Derek Vauhn, 58, of Middletown, was arrested and charged with robbery and theft.

At the presentation of the award, Pressley explained why he jumped into action.

“I just turned around and did what I had to do as a citizen and I’m glad I helped her because she’s a wonderful lady, and I just love helping people,” Pressley said in the video posted to social media.

Pressley and Goins, 87, said they are going to stay in touch and have a dinner date planned.
