Longtime Dayton Daily News columnist Dale Huffman gave a special lecture Friday night at Wright State University.
His lecture is the fifth in the "Living Legends of the Dayton Daily News Archives" series, which celebrates the newspapers's special collections and archives.
Huffman shared some of his memories – including a letter from a 13-year-old boy asking him to make his mom "Mother of the Year." He said that award is one that still lives.
"I get calls and run into people in Kroger all the time that say 'I was Mother of the Year in so and so year," he said.
Huffman was a columnist for the Dayton Daily News for more than 40 years, and he still occasionally writes for the newspaper. His column was known for sharing good news and happy stories from around Dayton.
