WEST ALEXANDRIA — A local turkey farm in Preble County is ready for the rush to order from consumers as there is a potential turkey shortage hitting the country.

Operators at The Maker’s Meadow said they realized there was a rise in demand for pasture-raised turkeys. So, in order to meet the demand, operators at the farm decided to triple the number of turkeys they produced over 2020.

Lead farmer John Filburn said, “One of our niches is to raise healthy, nutrient-rich, pasture-raised turkeys by following organic farming practices. We wanted to expand to better serve the community with good turkeys.”

According to Filburn, The Maker’s Meadow is ready for the rush for online ordering to take off. He said the farm currently has a surplus of turkeys, but said he expects that to change soon.

“We’ve got plenty of turkeys available to order at this time. But now comes the rush to order. We fully expect to sell out before our deadline on Saturday. Nov. 20,” Filbrun said.

The Maker’s Meadow delivers the freshly harvested turkeys that range in size from 12-18 pounds to customers at their home.

The family-owned business is located at 3135 North Preble County Line Road in West Alexandria.
