At least three police departments are actively recruiting, including Fairborn and Xenia.

“The City of Xenia Police Division is actively looking qualified candidates to serve as police officers,” Xenia Police said in a statement to News Center 7. “We are accepting lateral applications from certified officers and welcome anyone with questions to contact our office.”

The Xenia Post of the State Highway Patrol is also looking for qualified men and women to be state troopers and help bolster their ranks

“I think we’re just like everybody nowadays,” Lieutenant John Hilderbrandt told News Center 7′s John Bedell Tuesday. “Everybody is seeing a turnover.”

He says they need recruits between the age of 21 and 34 to sign up for the patrol’s 26-week, live-in, training academy.

“Law enforcement is a necessity and we need those people who want to make this a career,” Hilderbrandt said. “Not just a job that truly want to make the community a better place for those that live in it, themselves and their families.”

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has a QR code on the back of every cruiser in the state and if you open the camera on your phone and scan it, it will give you a link to the state patrol’s recruitment website.

“We are trying to do a lot of new and different things,” said Hilderbrandt . “We want to get the community active with our recruiting process.”
