McElvene, aka “Big Steve,” passed away just two months after the 2016 season at the age of 20 from an undiagnosed heart condition, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
His family attended the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena on New Year’s Day where his legacy was honored on the Donate Life Float, as he helped save more than 75 lives through tissue donation.
