Kettering Health to perfom first specialized breast reconstruction surgery in the Dayton region

KETTERING — Kettering Health announced that they are the first healthcare system in the Dayton region to perform the Profunda Artery Perforator (PAP) flap breast reconstruction surgery.

The PAP flap surgery is currently being offered at the Kettering Health Main Campus.

“We are excited to be the only Dayton healthcare system to offer this life changing surgery,” said Nickolay Markov, MD, plastic surgeon at Kettering Health. “By offering this surgery, we’ve expanded options for breast reconstruction to women throughout the region.”

According to the release, the PAP flap surgery uses tissue from the patient’s inner thigh to create new breasts after a mastectomy, compared to other breast reconstruction procedures that use tissue from the abdomen.

The PAP flap surgery prevents patients from losing muscle from another part of the body and gives the patients a well-hidden surgical scar. Using this method of breast reconstruction will help them look and feel more natural, taking away the need for breast implants, according to the release.
