The work continues inside the Dayton Convention Center.

It’s all a part of a re-imagining — a process that began more than five years ago.

“The city and the county, we’re just all committed and working really lockstep to just drive out economic growth,” Pamela Plageman said.

Plageman is the COO of the Convention Facilities Authority.

That board took ownership of the convention center in 2021.

Workers are nearing the end of a nearly $50 million project that touched every part of the massive facility.

Whether it’s outside or inside, there are spaces designed to cater to groups of all sizes.

“As our hotel package flourishes, which is happening, that will just continue to grow. we have so many events coming to the center this year that haven’t been here before,” Plageman said.

She said to bring in the top-of-the-line conventions to Dayton, they must have hundreds of hotel rooms available.

It’s one of the reasons the Convention Facilities Authority is focused on building its 200-room hotel across Jefferson Street.

Plageman said more hotels will be needed down the line and the Convention Facilities Authority will work with other partners and look at additional properties.

The work is expected to be completed by April with a community house set for June.

We will continue to follow this story.
