As reported on News Center 7 at 11, when people arrive at the Clark County Fairgrounds, deputies and a metal detector greet them.

Some, like Kira Corlette, said it was a pleasant surprise.

“I think anytime we can take measures to ensure public safety. It’s always best best-case scenario,” Corlette said. “feel safer having my daughter here as well.

Sheriff Chris Clark said it is all precautionary.

Last year, fights forced the fair to close early.

Deputies are also using technology to spot situations before they turn into problems.

“We’re going to have drones that are going to be able to give us a bird’s eye view of what’s going on in the Midway and surrounding areas,” Clark said.

And the prosecutor’s office is involved.

“We’ll have probation officers out here to help identify some kids that shouldn’t be out here,” Clark said.

Fair visitors are taking advantage of the new rides and entertainment, like Wesley Williams.

Fair Director Dean Blair is sure the additions will be a hit.

“The sea lions are here,” Blair said. “They’re fabulous,”

They were a big hit for Keisha Dean.

“You saw one like jump up out of the one pool and then walk to the other. It was just super cute,” Dean said.

The fair also added a new building for 4-H pigs.

They hope this will give kids more room for activities.
