Affected by the tornadoes: Check your credit reports

A local mortgage consultant said it’s important for tornado survivors to keep an eye on credit reports to make sure they aren’t missing any payments on active accounts.

“They’re not maybe getting their bills,” said Tammy Koller with USA Mortgage.

Koller said it’s important for survivors to notify any creditors, including mortgage lenders, of any address changes following any tornado damage.  Failure to do so could lead to people forgetting to make payments or being late.

“It’s causing some late pays, things like that, which can definitely affect scores negatively,” Koller said. “Make sure you call all of your creditors so they know where you’re at.”
