Thousands without power in the Miami Valley during Saturday’s wintry weather

MIAMI VALLEY — Thousands were left without power after winter weather and wind yesterday. At the peak of the outages, over 5,000 people were left in the dark.

Throughout the day, several outages were reported in several counties. Auglaize, Clark, Champaign, Darke, Mercer, Miami and Preble counties all experienced outages on Saturday.

A DP&L spokesperson said that with yesterday’s weather, wind waslikely to be the biggest issue for DP&L customers by pushing over trees. While DP&L said that they do trim trees immediately around where the lines pass through, the wind can push over older trees outside of that area onto the lines.
