District chief calls College Street house fire in Dayton ‘suspicious in nature’

UPDATE @ 11:30 p.m.: The fire in the vacant duplex at 39 S. College Street is being investigated as suspicious in nature, Dayton District Fire Chief Tim Rose said.

He estimated the damage to the structure at $500.

Rose said crews were dispatched to the same house about two weeks ago for a fire that, too, has been labeled as suspicious.

INITIAL REPORT

Crews are on the scene of a house fire on South College Street and they have asked for an arson investigator.

Firefighters aboard a fire truck returning from a run spotted the flames and called for extra crews.

The fire was called in just before 11 p.m. There are no reports of injury.

We're hearing that crews arriving on scene are describing the structure as a duplex.
