High school students in the Miami Valley start getting vaccinated

Clinics and pharmacies in the Miami Valley are now vaccinating people as young as 16-years-old. This is ahead of the state’s schedule, which was not planning on opening up eligibility for those ages 16 and up until March 29th.

Fairborn High School junior, Abbey Owens, got her first shot Tuesday.

“It was more just like a little pinch and then it was over,” Owens said.

Seniors Brodie Paxson and Taryn Catron have appointments to get their first shots on Monday.

“I’m excited. I’m ready to get it,” Catron said.

The three students have dealt with a year that involved virtual learning, quarantining, and missed milestones.

“It’s been very sad that we haven’t gotten a lot of the opportunities that some of our past seniors have gotten,” Paxson said.

Now, they are looking forward to the opportunities being vaccinated will provide.

“It gives me some relief that we’re somewhat going back to the new normal, if not normal,” Owens said.
