TROY -- A Piqua man convicted in the February robbery of the Piqua Kroger has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Eric Higgins, 28, pleaded guilty in April in Miami County Common Pleas Court to an amended charge of felony attempted robbery.

Police said he told a cashier he had a firearm and took money from the register. No one was injured.

Tuesday, Higgins told Judge Christopher Gee he was a good person but had allowed drugs to take over his life. The judge gave Higgins credit for 78 days he has served in county jail.

Higgins also faces a felony aggravated robbery charge in a holdup of a Speedway in Greenville on Feb. 19. That charge is pending in Darke County Common Pleas Court.
