Construction of the framework of Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway has been completed.
The construction project, approved last year, created about 1,000 construction jobs. The Dayton-Montgomery County Port Authorities voted to authorize $65 million in bonds to finance the construction in June. Construction on the 119-acre racino is on schedule, according to spokesman Bob Tenenbaum, and could be open to the public by summer 2014.
Tenenbaum estimates the racino will be 1,000 jobs. That's counting people hired by the racino and those hired by companies to provide an array of good and services, such as maintenance workers.
Hollywood Gaming has casinos in Columbus and Toledo but construction on a racino similar to the one being built in Dayton is underway in Youngstown. Officials said both racino projects are on similar schedules and should open within a couple weeks of each other.
Holywood Gaming officials will be at the construction site today for a "topping out" ceremony in which ironworkers will sign the final beam before it's hoisted into place by a crane.
