The Dorothy Lane Kroger store was evacuated Saturday afternoon when a Freon line to a refrigerated Esther Price display case burst.
"It let out a big boom when the line blew," said Battalion Chief Jon Durrenberg of the Kettering Fire Department.
Kroger immediately evacuated the grocery just after 3:30 p.m. at 2115 E. Dorothy Lane.
The leak – which caused the coolant gas to cloud above the open display unit – was not a threat to customers, Durrenberg said.
"It wasn't enough to cause a danger to anybody," he said.
The Dayton-made fine chocolates were not damaged, and there were no reports of injuries, Durrenberg said.
Firefighters determined the incident was self-contained, and around 3:54 p.m. gave the all-clear for Kroger to reopen the store. It had been shut down for about 20 minutes.
