Electrical issues suspected in Dayton fire that damaged 2 homes Thursday

DAYTON — People living in a Dayton home were able to escape without injuries after a fire broke out Thursday afternoon, according to firefighters.

Crews were called out to the house on Wellington Place near Kitridge Road around 12:30 p.m. Thursday and reported flames where shooting through the roof of the house.

Firefighters told News Center 7 people inside the home heard pops before smelling smoke. Neighbors had already spotted the fire and called 911 before the people inside the home got out.

The fire spread into the attic and caused significant damage to the roof and other parts of the house. However the house is not believed to be a total loss and damage was estimated around $70,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation but electrical issues are suspected, firefighters said.

Siding on the neighboring house was melted and damaged during the fire.

No injuries were reported.
