Dragons reveal ballpark’s COVID-19 policies ahead of season opener

DAYTON — It’s been more than 20 months since fans were in their seats to watch Dragons play a game. There will be plenty of changes for those going to games at Day Air Ballpark.

Tickets and concessions stands will all be digital transactions. Masks will be required and social distancing will be a point of emphasis.

There’s signage around the ballpark to control the flow of foot traffic as well. The team is adding additional gates to get in and out of the park and tickets will have information on suggested gate to use.

Tickets will be sold in pods and 6 feet apart from the next group of seat. The app will be a useful tool for the digital tickets as well as many other things for the new look Day Air Ballpark. For more information you can click this link www.daytondragons.com/digitaltickets.

“Our season ticket renewal rate heading into the 21 season is higher coming out of COVID than it was going from 19 heading into 20,” Robert Murphy, Dragons Team President, said. “That says a lot about how important this team is to the community.”

Murphy said one of the most asked questions isn’t about what it will be like in the park but rather about the sellout streak that sits at 1,385 games.

“We have decided that we wanted to hit the pause button on the sellout streak,” Murphy said. “We didn’t want to have this become a game where we say oh, we have 1600 seats in the stadium and they were all sold. For us, the city of Dayton, and this region, that’s not what a Dayton Dragons sell out is all about.”

The approximate capacity allowed at Day Air Ballpark is 2,600 total, with about 1,700 in regular seats. All suites can be used, but they are limited to 10 people per suite. Lawn seats will be available, but similar to Major League Baseball’s spring training season, they will be inside socially distanced, marked boxes.

The Dragons season is underway and the team’s home opener will be Tuesday May 11th.
