Dayton Police Chief calls recent rise in crime among teens a “continuation of a disturbing trend”

DAYTON — The Dayton Police Department is warning about two groups of you people involved in crimes, retaliating back and forth against each other. Now, the retaliation seems to be spreading beyond the city limits.

Dayton police Chief Richard Biehl said the recent incidents have been a “continuation of a disturbing trend citywide.”

“A majority of this crime includes continued back and forth retaliation over a recent homicide,” Dayton Police Assistant Chief, Matt Carper told News Center 7′s Mike Campbell.

That recent homicide was 18-year-old Kameron Dewberry, who was killed last week on West Hudson Avenue.

On Wednesday, a 17-year-old was shot on Kumler Avenue.

The Riverside Police Department said they are looking into a fatal crash that killed three teenagers Wednesday night. Police said it took place after an apparent attempted carjacking.

Police said the crash may be criminally related to a fatal shooting in Harrison Twp., where 15-year-old J’yon Manson-Coleman was fatally shot inside a car just a few blocks from where another young victim was shot. That victim was transported to the hospital.

Investigators said they were not sure if the Harrison Twp. and Riverside incidents were related the feud between the two Dayton groups, but they were not ruling it out.
