Doughnut shop closes after worker strips business

The Donut Palace, a Dayton staple located at the corner of Salem and Gettysburg avenues, has closed after an employee allegedly stripped the shop.

Customers visiting the store shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday discovered the doors locked and the doughnut counters missing. No signs were posted to let customers know what was happening with the business. Cars continued to enter the parking lot with drivers getting out to look inside the business, only to leave disappointed.

A Montgomery County Sheriff's deputy on Thursday afternoon was taking a theft report at the business owned by Maher Alshoura. Alshoura, who said he also owns JJ Fish & Chicken on Salem Avenue, said the shop was undergoing a remodeling. However, an employee reportedly cleared out $50,000 worth of equipment.

The building is listed as a rental property owned by Ray Mullins of Englewood, according to records from the Montgomery County Auditor's Office.
