Dog attacked by coyote in Cedarville

CEDARVILLE — It is currently mating season for coyotes, making them more aggressive than usual. A dog in Cedarville learned that unfortunate lesson two weeks ago when she was attacked by a coyote while out with her owners.

Cali, a 6-year-old Labrador Retriever Mix, was enjoying a run, off her leash, at one of her favorite spots, Indian Mound Reserve when she caught the scent of another animal and went to look for it.

The scent she picked up on was that of a coyote. After she found the wild animal, the two got into a “nasty fight,” according to Keith Stigers, Cali’s owner.

“I found her pretty well dazed and a little bloody, standing in the middle of a stream,” Stigers said.

Cali suffered bite marks to her right hip, which required a half-dozen staples to hold her skin together.

In Greene County, parks require dogs be kept on a leash. After what happened two weeks ago, Stigers said Cali will be on a leash from now on.
