The deputy along with another deputy attempted to set up a perimeter to keep the dogs in one area until the dog warden arrived.

When the dog warden arrived on the scene one of the dogs charged the deputy and bit him in the leg.

In self-defense, the deputy took out his service weapon and discharged it, killing the dog, according to the sheriff’s office.

The other two dogs ran away and have yet to be found.

The injured deputy was treated by New Carlisle Fire Department on the scene.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the Dog Warden’s Office are currently investigating and pending charges could be expected to be filed on the dog’s owner(s), the sheriff’s office said.
