Dayton man brings vaccine clinic to neighborhood cookout

DAYTON — As the Delta variant continues to spread, a Dayton man took action to bring the vaccine to his community.

Ivory Kennedy, president of the Arlington Courts Community Council, enlisted the Dayton & Montgomery County Mobile Covid-19 Vaccination Clinic to come and set up for five hours at a community cookout.

Kennedy wanted to bring the vaccine to his neighborhood. He told News Center 7′s Michael Gordon that even getting one person vaccinated “would be gold.”

At least eight people got the vaccine, including six who got their first dose. For Kennedy, there was one person he was particularly happy to see get the shot.

“The first guy on that bus this morning was my brother, Johnny. I believe he would not have gotten the shot if I had not brought him to the bus,” Kennedy said.

There were incentives attached to getting the vaccine, with each person getting $100 Kroger gift card, but Kennedy said it was not about the money, but the availability for his neighbors.

“A lot of them won’t leave the neighborhood and if we can bring the shot into the neighborhood we can do better,” Kennedy said.
