DAYTON — It’s been a trying two years for the Dayton Dragons, like it has been for many industries.
The Dragons are now able to open the stadium up to full capacity. The team started the year with reduced capacity capabilities.
That’s had a big impact on the front office’s ability to sell tickets because it’s usually something they work on year round.
“I think the New York Yankees were the ones they’d put tickets on sale and they would sell out everything and it was a very easy thing back in the day,” Eric Deutsch, Dragons Executive Vice President, said. “Nowadays we have to work pretty hard at it usually start the following season around August 1/September 1 time frame and we didn’t have that in this past year so we’re playing a little bit of cat-chup.”

When the restrictions have changed the teams have had to try and sell tickets as they come available and usually without much notice which has added to the difficulties of getting seats filled.
“We’ve got 36 home games left in the season, doing well,” Deutsch said. “For the first time in many years we’ve got tickets available because we just didn’t have the luxury of having a group campaign in our offseason and still had to wait for kind of the COVID restrictions to come down. It’s nice to be able to come out and feel a little bit more normal but yeah we do have some tickets available and we’d love to have you out.”
Deutsch is hopeful the group ticket sales get a similar response to when they were able to open suite and party decks to full capacity.
“Suites and our party decks and our Dragons Lair is sold out the community really responded to those, Deutsch said. “It was a great message from them to us and we appreciate that. We’ve got group outings, we’ve got our lawn tickets, got our single game tickets.”
The Dragons open their home stand for July 6-11 in first place with 36 home games remaining. The team hopes to see more people return to Day Air Ball Park after having the 2020 season canceled and attendance restrictions in place for some of the 2021 season as wel.
