Dayton Arcade continues construction with Phase 1 expected to be completed by end of 2020

DAYTON — The Historic Dayton Arcade has not stopped construction as it expects the South Arcade and housing units to be done by the end of the year.

The first of nine buildings included in the Historic Dayton Arcade includes the Rotunda, University of Dayton’s entrepreneur center, and 110 apartments.

“Housing is pretty far along, housing is actually in the final stages,” explained Arcade Development Director David Williams.

The Historic Arcade was once Dayton’s main marketplace and now it hopes to become one the main gathering spaces.

Those involved hope that the completion of Phase One will drive interest in Phase 2.

“Once this gets open, the cool stuff we’ve done here, it’s going to sell itself,” said Williams.

Construction supervisors say that while it may not look like it, this area will be ready to open for the entrepreneur’s center by the end of the year and for businesses to move in on the first floor space of the South Arcade.

The cost to renovate the Arcade is over $90 million.

Phase Two work on the North Arcade is expected to begin sometime next year and would last 18 months.
