JEFFERSON TWP. — UPDATE @ 6:35 a.m: At least two children were treated as a precaution for smoke inhalation after a house fire in Jefferson Twp. Tuesday morning, officials said.

In a 911 call obtained by this news organization, the homeowner tells dispatchers that she and her children were able to make it out of the house.
“My house is on fire!”, the caller yelled. “My babies, we’re outside. They only have on shirts and a diaper.”
There were seven people in total that escaped the fire, three adults and four children. They all are expected to be okay, officials said.
A preliminary investigation revealed the fire started due to unattended cooking in the kitchen. Officials said there were also no working smoke detectors in the home.
“Please have a smoke detector, it’s vital”, said Lt. Matt Netzley with the Jefferson Twp. Fire Department.
Fire officials say they got lucky that there were no windy conditions, which are expected to gust high later in the afternoon.
“Wind gives it more oxygen and kind of fuels the fire to an extent. It can work with us or against us really, and today we got lucky. No wind”, said Netzley.
The house suffered smoke and water damage and the family will not be able to stay there.
Dayton Power & Lights, and well as Vectren personnel were requested to the residence, according to emergency scanner traffic.
