RV crash causes major backup on I-70 West

An RV jackknifed and flipped on westbound I-70, causing a major backup Friday night.

A family of six from Delaware, Ohio, was in a Chevrolet SUV pulling a recreational vehicle on the way to a vacation in Indiana when the trailer blew a tire, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The SUV was in the far left lane when it happened. The SUV and RV went across the three lanes to the far right lane, where the RV simultaneously jackknifed and flipped on top of cable guards.

The accident happened just past Ohio 41, on I-70 between Ohio 41 and Ohio 72.

There were no other vehicles behind or to the side of the family at the time of the crash, and there were no injuries.

All three lanes were temporarily blocked, and at 7:06 p.m. one lane was opened.

Jody Ice was headed from Columbus to Enon to see her fiance when she was caught by heavy traffic.

"Two mph is as fast as we're moving," Ice said earlier this evening.

Traffic was backed up about five miles.

The RV was ripped apart, the vehicle and its contents all over the road and grassy median. The wreckage took hours to clear, according to the highway patrol.

The Ohio Department of Transportation was called to the scene because the wreckage involved the cable guards.
