Coronavirus: Dayton man waited 11 days for test result; Gov. DeWine pushing for change

DAYTON — A Dayton man had to wait 11 days to get his coronavirus test results back.

Now, Gov. Mike DeWine is urging hospitals to change their procedures to speed the process.

Andrew Storck said he had coronavirus symptoms, so he called his doctor.

“I met all of the qualifications and had been out a lot so I decided to get tested,” Storck told News Center 7’s Molly Koweek.

He went to Premier Health’s testing center in the University of Dayton Arena parking lot.

He said medical providers told him it could take 24 to 48 hours to get results, but warned him it could be up to five days.

Storck stayed home in quarantine during his wait.

After 11 days, his doctor called him with a negative test result.

“I don’t think it’s acceptable as we go through this crisis to be in this situation where we’re waiting and people are waiting four, five, and six days,” DeWine said Monday.

Storck said his doctor’s office told him there was a delay at the California lab testing his sample.

“There’s nothing wrong with the private labs. They do good work. But they are behind,” DeWine said.

He is now encouraging hospitals to send samples to hospitals with quick testing or the Ohio Department of Health, which he said can turn the results around in less than 24 hours for free.
