HUBER HEIGHTS — Residents in Huber Heights have been able to drive golf carts around the city since August, but numerous complaints prompted police to issue warning on social media to obey the laws.
Zack Kochel of Huber Heights said he believes the complaints about golf carts operating illegally in the Carriage Trails neighborhood have to do with people allowing their children to drive them.

“I think the problem is that people don’t realize when it becomes street legal it’s then a motor vehicle so you have to be careful with kids driving them and stuff like that,” Kochel said.
He has had his golf cart for three years, and said he makes sure his vehicle is street legal, which means having mirrors, windshields, seat belts and meets other requirements.
“It’s more of a pleasure vehicle similar to a motorcycle or a convertible,” he said.
The Huber Heights police Facebook post on Wednesday said police would do inspections by appointment to to license golf carts.

“Each golf cart that passes inspection will be authorized to receive a title and registration from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, along with Ohio passenger license plates,” the post stated.
The ordinance states only those 16 and older with a valid driver’s license can operate a golf cart, and there are restrictions, such as only driving on streets with speed limits no more than 25 mph.
Huber Heights Councilman Richard Shaw said other local cities have contacted them to look at creating a similar ordinance for golf carts.
