Clearcreek Twp. officer shot in line of duty discharged from rehab facility, continuing to recover

CLEARCREEK TOWNSHIP — A Clearcreek Township officer who was shot in the line of duty is home after a recent scare sent him back to the hospital.

Officer Eric Ney, a 14-year veteran of the force, was critically injured after being shot across the face July 12 while responding to a domestic violence incident in the 5900 block of State Route 48.

Ney was rushed to the hospital and was discharged less than two weeks later from a rehab facility.

He was later admitted back into the hospital after he developed blood clots in the main arteries going to his lungs and doctors found air on his brain.

After multiple surgeries to patch the hole in his skull, Ney was recovering in an inpatient rehab facility near Miami Valley Hospital.

Tuesday afternoon, Clearcreek Township Chief John Terrill said Ney is now home and will begin to commute to rehab.

While the recent scare is over, Terrill said Ney still “faces a tough ride.”
