Clark State creates scholarship to honor fallen Clark County deputy

CLARK COUNTY — A scholarship has been created in honor of fallen Clark County Deputy Matthew Yates.

Yates, a 15-year veteran of the force, was shot and killed in July while responding to reports of a person shot inside a mobile home in Harmony Township.

Yates and his wife Tracy both graduated from Clark State’s Peace Officer Training, according to a release.

Tracy, director of workforce and business solutions at Clark State, said many people wanted to know how they could make a contribution to honor Matthew, so a scholarship was created in his name.

“The college community mourns with the Yates’ family and recognizes that Matt was a proud Clark State graduate,” Dr. Jo Alice Blondin, president of Clark State said. “We were unbelievably proud of him, as well. By establishing this scholarship, we honor his memory and his legacy as an outstanding officer of the law.”
