CLARK COUNTY — The Clark County Sheriff’s Office and county commissioners opened a new $6 million 911 communications center earlier this week.

The project was paid for using several different funding services including bonds, 911 Wireless funding and American Rescue Plan Act dollars, according to a media release.

“The community has long recognized the need for combined 911 dispatch services to improve safety and response times,” Board of Clark County Commissioners President Melanie Flax Wilt said.

The combined dispatching operation includes the city of Springfield, the city of New Carlisle and all 10 townships in Clark County.

New technology now allows dispatch to answer text messages to 911.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held later this Spring.
