Christopher Columbus statue removed from outside Columbus City Hall

COLUMBUS — The city removed the statue of Christopher Columbus from outside Columbus city hall early this morning, according to our news partners at 10TV.

The statue, which sat on the Broad Street side of city hall, was ordered to be removed by the city’s mayor.

Crews arrived around 3 a.m. to remove the statue and removal took about three hours, 10TV reported.

Mayor Andrew Ginther announced on June 18 that the statue would be removed saying it didn’t represent the values of the city. He has asked the Columbus Art Commission to do a community-driven process on how to replace the statue.

The statue was a gift from people in Genoa, Italy in 1955.
