Child, 2 others transported to hospital after accident on U.S 35

Three people have been injured after a two-vehicle accident on U.S 35 and Abbey Avenue Saturday evening around 6 p.m.

Sgt. Gordon Cairns with the Dayton Police Department told News Center 7 that one of the cars involved in the crash flipped over on its side trapping a woman inside.

Crews worked to extract the woman and she was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

There was also a dog inside of the vehicle whose condition is unknown.

Cairns says that there were two males in the other vehicle, one of them being a child who was transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital.

The child is reported to be in stable condition, and the driver’s condition is unknown at this time.

Police are currently directing traffic at the intersection of the area after the vehicle that flipped on its side knocked out traffic lights.

Cairns said they are working quickly to get the traffic lights back up and working.

Until then, stop signs will be put up and the intersection will be treated as a four-way stop to prevent additional accidents.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this time, but Cairns said it is being investigated if whether or not one of the vehicles ran a red light.
