Cheesecake Factory evacuated when pipe bursts

Firefighters swept out water from the foyer of the Cheesecake Factory at The Greene, after a pipe in the sprinkler system ruptured.

Beavercreek fire crews responded shortly before 5 p.m. to the restaurant, which was evacuated.

Battalion Chief Bryon Betsinger estimated a couple hundreds gallons came pouring out of the broken pipe and security had to shut off the sprinkler system to stop the flow.

Betsinger said the water didn't cause any damages as it fell onto the foyer and was pushed out the entrance.

Betsinger said his department was responding to multiple calls for the same, cold weather-related problem.

"What we're seeing right now is that the sprinkler heads are getting ice, pushing the eyelets open," he said.

The restaurant had to close and it was not immediately known when it would reopen.

The Greene reopened at noon Tuesday after closing Monday night because of the frigid weather.
