A Centerville High School student is facing criminal charges after he was accused of assaulting a teen and stealing a backpack while on spring break in Siesta Key, Florida.
Mamoun Mustafa, 18, faces a felony charge for strong arm robbery and deputies say he is accused of punching a 15-year-old victim on the right side of his face. Mamoun Mustafa then was accused of stealing a backpack from the teen, deputies said.
The suspect’s brother, Amin Mustafa, said his brother didn’t steal the bag, but instead threw it in frustration. Amin Mustafa also said the 15-year-old was making racist comments toward his brother’s friend.
“My brother turned around and said he looked like he was going to get hit, and he basically just hit the kid. It was self defense,” said Amin Mustafa.
According to an incident report, Mamoun Mustafa was accused attacking the 15-year-old after Mamoun Mustafa asked for help finding a cigarette lighter in the sand with a cell phone flashlight.
Deputies said three Indiana teens were attacked in Siesta Key last week, including the 15-year-old Mamoun is accused of attacking.
Mamoun Mustafa is expected to appear in a Florida courtroom in May.
