Centerville grad thanks firefighters for saving life

Centerville teen, Alex Lovett, who survived a crash that killed fellow classmate Mitchell Haber in September 2012, visited the firefighters that played a role in saving his life.

Lovett, who was 18 at the time of the crash on Sept. 9, 2012, thanked the Vandalia and Butler Twp. firefighters at the fire station yesterday.

According to the Facebook page "Prayers for Alex Lovett", which is a page dedicated to keeping family and friends updated on the Centerville teen's recovery, Lovett baked brownies for the firefighters and offered a special thank you.

"He's wanted to thank them in person for a while now and today he did," a post on the page said.

Lovett was the passenger in a 2002 Ford Mustang when Haber was driving north on Brantford Road.

During the crash the Mustang left the road, hit a utility pole and tree before rolling and crashing into a second tree, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Haber was thrown from the vehicle and died from his injuries. Lovett had to be pulled from the wreckage and was critically injured, leading to him being hospitalized until earlier this year.

While hospitalized, Lovett was on life support and in a coma for an extended period of time.

Just last week Lovett recorded a video message for the followers of his Facebook page.

"Thank you so much for praying for me, it has helped a lot," Lovett said.
