CELINA — Leaders in a Mercer County community hit by one of the 15 Memorial Day tornadoes estimate they’re about a third of the way re-built.
Celina survived an EF-3 tornado, and even though some parts look the same as it did that night, others see progress of recovery.
Celina Mayor Jeff Hazel says the city had 103 buildings hit and more than 40 had to be torn down, but he’s pleased with how the community has responded.
“It was a new way of normal. They’re anxious to get back to another way of normal when they can move back in.”

Hazel says two of the biggest obstacles people are still facing are issues with insurance and a shortage of contractors to build homes.
