New Carlisle man identified as victim of deadly Clark County crash Sunday

BETHEL TWP., Clark County — Alcohol is being investigated as a potential factor in a crash Sunday morning in Bethel Twp., Clark County that killed one man and sent another to an area hospital with serious injuries, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at U.S. 40 and state Route 235 around 9:15 a.m. Sunday.

James C. Williams, 74, of New Carlisle was identified as the victim killed in the crash, state troopers said in a media release.

A preliminary investigation found Williams was driving a 2019 Hyundai sedan south on state Route 235 and collided in the intersection of U.S. 40 with a 2007 Nissan pickup truck traveling east, state troopers said.

Williams was taken by ground ambulance to Miami Valley Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The pickup truck’s driver, identified as William Evans, 50, of Blacklick, Ohio, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight medical helicopter with life-threatening injuries, according to state troopers.

Alcohol is being investigated as a factor in the crash, investigators said.

Additional details were not available.

Dispatch reports also indicated one person may have been ejected at the scene and another person trapped.
