2 in hospital after motorcycle hits deer in Darke County

GREENVILLE — UPDATE @ 3:28 a.m.:

Two men are in the hospital after a motorcycle crash on Route 121 just before midnight.

According to a release from the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a motorcycle accident with injury, along with crews from Tri-Village Rescue, New Madison Fire Department and mutual aid from Greenville Township Rescue. CareFlight was later called to the scene.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2011 Harley Davidson was traveling south on Route 121, driven by Brandon Leonard, 26, of Union City, with a passenger, Logan Hofacker, 21, of Greenville.

The motorcycle struck a deer in the roadway, causing both Leonard and Hofacker to be thrown from the vehicle.

Leonard was not wearing a helmet, and was treated at the scene by Tri-Village Rescue before being transported to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight.

Hofacker was wearing a helmet, and was treated on scene by Greenville Township Rescue then transported to Wayne Hospital.

Both are listed in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
