Bomb squad conducts controlled detonation in Washington Twp.

WASHINGTON TWP. — Washington Township officials are detailing a controlled detonation that the Dayton Bomb Squad conducted Thursday evening.

According to a release, the bomb squad was called out to Fire Station 43 on Dayton Lebanon Pike to dispose of hazardous material.

A local family contacted the Washington Township Fire Department after discovering the hazardous materials on their property.

The department called the Dayton Bomb Squad and used Fire Station 43 as a safe location for the controlled detonation.

Officials said there was no threat to area residents.

“We’re grateful that the family contacted us and for the immediate response and coordination of our Fire Department, the Dayton Bomb Squad, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office,” Jesse Lightle, Washington Township Administrator said. “Because of this effort, we were able to notify residents as soon as possible and quickly mitigate the situation.”
