Biden to allow summertime sales of E15 gas; Is it good for your car?

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

In the latest attempt to reel in gas prices, President Biden this week announced plans to allow widespread sales of E15 gas.

It’s a 15% ethanol blend typically banned in the summer months.

Gas prices are going up, and while you may be looking to save a few pennies, getting gas 15% ethanol may do more damage than good.

Auto care expert Robert Stidham warns ethanol isn’t for everyone.

“If you have a high-performance vehicle, you really should use what the owner’s manual calls for,” Stidham said. “If it calls for premium gas it’s best you use premium gas in it.”

Ethanol can cause a little bit spark and drivability concerns, according to Stidham.

Here’s what else you need to know about E15…

  • The price difference between E15 and conventional gas is 40 cents
  • The price difference between E15 and what’s typically sold E10 is 10 cents.
  • There is no noticeable difference between mileage achieved using E15 vs E10

Sales of 15% ethanol blend is usually prohibited between June 1 and Sept 15th because of the concerns it adds to smog in high temperatures.
