Baby killed, mother injured after shooting in Columbus Tuesday night

COLUMBUS — A baby was killed in a shooting at home in Columbus Tuesday night.

The suspect, who is in custody, shot a woman and her 1 to 2-year-old baby inside a home near Lazelle Road and Worthington Galena Road in north Columbus, according to Chief Elaine Bryant and our news partners at WBNS.

Police say the suspect crashed a vehicle after taking the mother and her baby out of the home and forcing them into a vehicle. After the crash he reportedly fled the vehicle and carjacked another vehicle, WBNS reported.

Bryant said the shooting inside the home began as a domestic situation.

The suspect was arrested by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, but he has not been identified.

The mother who was shot is stable, according to WBNS.
