RICHMOND — Reid Health is temporally pausing administration of COVID-19 booster doses until new versions of it become available.
On Aug. 31, the Food and Drug Administration approved new versions of COVID vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna.
The updated shots have been made to take on the latest strains of the Omicron variant as well as the original strain, according to a release.
The updated vaccines are now the only booster shots approved by the FDA.

This change only affects booster shots for those ages 12 and up.
The original vaccines can still be used as primary shots for anyone who has not been vaccinated for COVID.
The pediatric version of the Pfizer vaccine can still be administered to those 6 months to 11 years old.
The hospital network said they will resume resume giving booster shots once they have received enough of the updated vaccines.
