KETTERING — Plans are moving forward for an apartment complex that would be built behind the Meijer off Hempstead Station Drive that would be 50 new housing units to the city.

Darby Run apartments would be developed by Spire Development, a Columbus-based real estate who build and own communities for working families and seniors, according to the developers website. The apartment complex is described as a general occupancy workforce housing community.

City planning documents show the complex would have 50 units, including one bedroom, two bedroom and three bedroom options. There also would be a community room, laundry facility, playground and covered picnic area.

Prices for the apartments were not immediately available, but the developer is planning to open the complex in 2023.

Kettering’s planning commission recommended approval for the plans for the housing complex this week and now the city council would have to approve the final plans.
