Alter, OSU standout to be inducted Jets’ Ring of Honor

An Archbishop Alter High School graduate and retired NFL star is set to be honored by his former team.

The New York Jets announced Thursday that Nick Mangold would be one of three new additions into their Ring of Honor this year. D’Brickahsaw Ferguson and Darrelle Revis will also join Mangold in the Ring of Honor at MetLife Stadium.

Mangold said learning of the honor was “as shock.” He said he was honored to be part of this with Ferguson and Revis.

“Congratulations you two. I feel like I’m the third wheel here, so I appreciate you guys letting me in. But it’s definitely an honor and I can’t wait to start the celebrations,” he said, as reported by the team’s official website.

He was drafted by the Jets in 2006 and spent all 11 years of his NFL career with the Jets, starting 171 games, including playoff games, for the team. The star center was selected to seven Pro Bowls and was selected for First Team All-Pro twice.

Before going pro, Mangold spent three years at the Ohio State University.

Mangold will join the Jets’ Ring of Honor on Spet. 25 when the New York takes on the Cincinnati Bengals.
