Pump Patrol: AAA says drivers are running out of gas

DAYTON — The pain at the pump continues in Ohio as gas prices have never been this high. The average cost for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is $4.75 in Ohio, which is a 15-cent jump from Wednesday and a 30-cent jump from two days ago.

AAA now says that drivers are running out of gas on the road.

With regular gas nearing $5 a gallon, people are finding ways to save in other areas just to afford the gas they need to get to work, school and other places.

One drive said, “It’s unfair tome every day because I’m on a fixed income so you know, it ain’t right”

Another driver said, “To watch just on what I’m seeing. I mean, even grocery prices are going up, so you have to watch there too.”

Trying to find ways to delay buying gas may seem like a good decision in the moment, but it will cost you down the road.

Kara Hitchens with AAA said, “So, we’re really kind of seeing that going back to our normal of the number of calls that we get for gas service. But that is happening. People are putting off buying gas, delaying driving as long as the can and we caution that because you can be anywhere and run out of gas and you don’t want to be on the side of the highway and run out of gas, that’s an unfortunate thing.”

The Ohio Department of Transportation said last month it responded to 245 out of gas calls in Ohio, 13 of them in Dayton.

Hitchens said that while gas prices could go up or down over the new few weeks, it more likely we won’t see relief anytime soon.
