Alter High School band crowned a champion at Bands of America Grand National Championships

KETTERING — Archbishop Alter High School’s The Marching Knights scored their first Bands of America Grand National Class A Championship Saturday.

The Marching Knights competed against 26 other bands in their division at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The band also won two additional awards in their class: “Outstanding Music Performance” and “Outstanding General Effect.”

This success follows a great season as the 36-student band earned the school’s ninth Mid States Band Association Championship earlier. The Marching Knights are also six-time Bands of America Grand National Semi Finalists.

Their division is designated for schools with 600 or fewer enrolled students, according to Bands of America’s website.

Bands of America hosts national championships since 1976 to provide an opportunity for bands to “demonstrate excellence” and “evaluate the achievement” of students, Bands of America stated.

The Marching Knights were led by Todd Tucker, the director of bands, and supported by parents, families, and alumni, a spokesperson for Alter High School said.
