2nd Street Market reopens outdoor market for 2021 season

The 2nd Street Market is a downtown Dayton gem

DAYTON — Five Rivers MetroParks’ 2nd Street Market has reopened its outdoor market, which includes food an artisan vendors.

The market, located at 600 E. Second St. in downtown Dayton, will be open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine, with the exception of severe weather, according to a release.

Shopping from 9 to 9:30 a.m. is reserved for those with compromised immune systems or are age 65 and older.

Shoppers are asked to review an online Shoppers’ Oath before visiting the Market, which asks them to do things such as stay home if they’re sick or have been in contact with someone who’s sick.

The following precautions and changes will be in place at the market:

  • Social distancing of at least six feet must be maintained at all times.
  • Shoppers are asked to purchase their items and move along so that others may do the same, as well as to prepare a list to expedite shopping.
  • Shoppers are encouraged to designate one person per household to visit the Market.
  • Shoppers will not be encouraged to touch products.
  • Dogs are not permitted other than service animals.
  • Restrooms and water fountains are not available, and shoppers will not have access to the interior of the Market building.

All shoppers are also required to wear face coverings that cover their mouth and nos. Exceptions will be made only for those who cannot wear a face covering due to health conditions.

Five Rivers MetroParks said they feel it was important to reopen the Market as more people are protecting their health in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Visitors will find that this year’s outdoor farmers market is a more robust version of last year’s shopping experience, still just as safe, but with more offerings,” said 2nd Street Market Manager, Lynda Suda. “Access to fresh food is still very critical, and we look forward to more food vendors joining us as the season progresses, in addition to some prepared food vendors, artisans and more.”
